Since the beginning of civilization man has dreamed of a Utopian society. A land where there is no war, no hunger and no telemarketers...but alas this Utopia has eluded us but we still search. Rome tried and was ultimately sacked, European powers colonized much of the globe in it's pursuit of a perfect world to fit their nation, Nazi Germany would try in it's own twisted and racist ways but would be in rubble in less than 13 years and America, for all it's greatness, still comes up short. We look to political candidates on opposite ends of the spectrum then when we find ourselves surprised that these same politicians sold us out e look to the stars and wonder if there is a perfect world outside of this little rock we call Earth?
The sad truth is that our world will never be perfect. Ever. We see and hear of terrible tragedies everyday of child molesters, baby killers and natural disasters that leave us asking, 'why these innocent people?' Humans are prone to violence and selfishness that has been seen at it's worst in the likes of Mao, Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot, Hussein, etc. Humans, whether it is based on religions ideals or on something trivial such as whom is getting that last Tickle Me Elmo for their child at Christmas, will more often than not show the worst side of our character.
A perfect world is not something that is just around the corner, tied up in a little bow. The idea of a perfect world varies from person to person. For some it maybe a happy little theocracy and for others it's a bottle of Jack, a line of coke and a hooker they found on craigslist. To each their own, right?
Instead we should look at the little things in life that brings us closer to a perfect day. It doesn't have to be a big deal to everyone else as long as it brings you happiness. The first moment you hear your baby boy/girl say mama or dada, the couple of extra hot fries at the bottom of your McDonalds bag, your favorite song plays on the radio on a sunny day...again the little things throughout the day that brings us happiness and speaking for myself...winning the lotto would be a great start.
