There are so many arguments that focus solely on Creation versus Evolution, but the title says "Teaching religion in public schools", not "Teaching Creation vs. Evolution in public schools".
First of all, just because a person is Christian and believes in Creation they do not therefore automatically have the right to denounce the beliefs of others. It is rude and obnoxious to state publicly that people who believe in Evolution are foolish, afraid of the truth, or in any way wrong for what they believe. On the other hand, it works the same way for people who believe in Evolution; it works that way for everything really, or it should. No one has the right to tell someone else their beliefs are a 'myth' or a 'lie'. That is exactly what Christian people say about Evolution just like those who profess Evolution to be the truth call what Christian people believe the 'Creation Myth'. It is unfair on both sides, and those are not the only sides of the issue! Christianity is not the only religion on earth.
Perhaps one of the greatest reasons that it was decided to NOT teach religion in public schools was the fact that no one could agree on one true religion. In America we have a little practice called freedom of religion which allows each and every one of us to decide for ourselves what we perceive as 'the truth'. In order to fairly and truly represent a complete and concise religious education curriculum in the United States alone there has to be information from every religion practiced in the United States. There is too much information that contradicts or goes against what others believe or choose to teach within their families. There is no way to offer a total religious education without offending SOMEBODY, which means it should not be included in public schools.
The argument has nothing to do with how or why human beings exist or the teachings thereof, the argument is for religion in general. The story of Creation is not the only story in the Bible, and Evolution is not the only theory on earth. No religion has ever been proven to be true and no theory has either, that is why it is called the Theory of Evolution and not the Fact of Evolution.
This article title did not say anything about specifically teaching the Christian religion in public schools; it just says 'religion'. That means any religion.
It isn't that teaching religion in public schools is wrong, it is that it won't be right to or for everyone. Some Christian parents would get very upset if their child
