How to program yourself for success

HOW TO PROGRAM YOURSELF FOR SUCCESS
The phrase "program yourself" reflects the awareness of people in this age that there are some ways in which the human mind and a computer are similar. We enter data by reading, listening to others, absorbing experiences, and even by what we say to ourselves about ourselves. The kind of data we have in our programs, decides what kind of people we are and what kinds of lives we will have.

We all have some old, bad program, that may have been created in large part by people who loved us but did not realize the impact that their responses and attitudes toward us and our ideas, could have on our lives.

HOW IT STARTS
Imagine a setting in which a young mother is having a soda with her sister, who is visiting. Their two little ones, ages 22 months and 2 years, are playing with building blocks near the mothers. The mother of the 2-year-old finishes her soda and holds out the empty can toward her child, "Here, take this and put it into the recycling for Mommy." The child glances up but then returns to his play, ignoring the request. His mother chuckles affectionately. "Lazy little thing!" she says lightly, and takes the can away, herself.
At the age of 2, the toddler has no idea what "lazy" means. But during the next few months he notices that his mother repeats it, sometimes about him and sometimes about other people. He comes to figure out what it means.

Less than a year later, when his father is working in the yard, he says to the little one, "You want to come and help Daddy?" The child firmly shakes his head. Surprised, the father says, "Why not?" And the little boy says, "Cuz I'm lazy!" Daddy busts up. He goes in to tell his wife what a cute thing their child has said, and they both tell the anecdote to their friends for several days afterward.
I don't have to tell you what kind of a program this kid has gotten, without anyone intending him ill, from this experience!

CHOOSING TO CHANGE
Not all bad programming is so benignly created. But the effect is the same. Unlike our conscious mind, our subconscious mind does not make value judgments about the data it receives, any more than our computer balks when we lie about our age in a chat room. Our subconscious mind perceives what we hear about ourselves, as instruction.
When we realize that we have been programmed with bad, destructive data, we want to delete it or uninstall it. Not so fast. The programs that have worked for (or against) us
