More and more people are entering the world of writing every day. They are turning to their words for full time possibilities. There are many ways that writing for a living can pay off but they aren't always financially. To many, this may be very discouraging but it is worth it in the long run.
Emotional rewards are nice. It is nice to know that people are reading what we have to say. It feels good to think that your thoughts matter. It is nice to have recognition for the great job that you do, no matter how small it may be.
Financially, there is a possibility. There are many well-paid authors in the world. You just have to put a lot of work into crafting your own style. You have to be willing to sale your work just as you are willing to sale a product at your job.
It isn't easy to get published. You have to find an audience that suits you. You have to be willing to work possibly harder than you ever have. It isn't so much physical as it is mental. You must be willing to devote time to writing every day. You must be able to pass through the writer's block and share your views.
The way I see it, you can do what you want and write or you can work for minimum wage and not enjoy what you are doing. At first, it may not be worth quitting your day job for. The money is there to be made but the earnings come slowly. It is important to stick to it and not get upset if you don't get results right away.
More than anything, my desire has been to be a writer. I want to be as famous as Stephen King is. I don't know if it is possible but it is nice to dream. My dreams are what make me hunger for more. They are what make me try harder. Focusing more on my goals help me improve my skills. I am becoming more comfortable as a writer.
At Helium, I have actually been paid. I don't make enough to pay all my bills every month but I don't make enough at my minimum wage job either. I have been able to meet some incredible writers whose words have touched my soul. I have shared my thoughts with the world. I have been published. I have been read. I may not be able to retire any time soon, but still writing has paid off for me.
