The top gifts for your favorite gardener

Help your favorite gardener add interest to their space and lighten their workload with these top gifts.

A gardener's tools should be of good quality for best performance and durability. Stainless steel is strong, easy to clean, and resists rust and breakage. Spades, trowels, shovels, hoes and many other tools are available in stainless steel and are worth the price.

For decoration, stainless steel gazing balls add shine and brilliance to the garden and can be kept clean with a soft rag and water or stainless steel cleanser.

Floral shears are sure to be appreciated and the price is right at the Zoysia Farm website. They are a best seller at $9.95. Another bestseller is the Power Plugger, which can speed bulb planting by 500%. It's shaped like a screw with a sharp point designed to drill into the dirt making the perfect hole for you bulbs, and the price is perfect at $24.95. Another must have item is the PH Meter for $16.95, making soil correction easier.

Garden carts and wheelbarrows are a gardener's necessity whether transporting plants or hauling away clippings. They range in size, quality and price from $50.00 -$500.00. If your gardener is moving large loads they will need a larger more professional wheelbarrow. Most gardener's will be happy with a mid range cart that holds a few armfuls of weeds and doesn't tip.

A cast iron fire pit gives off inviting light and warmth for an evening in the garden. You can find them at Lowes, Home Depot and other retail stores ranging in price from $45.00-$200.00.

Treat your favorite gardener's knees to the plush comfort of a padded mat for the garden. They come in a variety of colors and are easy to hose off. For their feet, give them rubber garden clogs, which can also be hosed off. Hands take a beating in the garden and a favorite glove is available at most stores for $5.00. The knit glove with latex palm protects skin while adding extra grip to handles and rocks. Most gardeners love to feel the dirt in their hands so giving them a rich cream will be appreciated. Udder balm, or Udderly Smooth, originally for Cows, is available at most stores and is the best for softening dry, cracked skin. Don't forget to add a good nailbrush.

For your favorite young gardener, a Venus Fly Trap kit can be fascinating and fun. Indoor greenhouse kits are also good for kids in the winter, and then in the spring the small plants can be moved outside to their own little garden.

Hot pink flamingos didn't make the list, so save them for another year.
