As record setting viewers tuned in this past Sunday to watch David slay Goliath, many things became obvious to fans. The one thing that was finally made clear is that the New York Giants are a very good team, with a quarterback who has grown to become one of the best in the league. Tom Coughlin was in danger of loosing his job as the season started out 0-2 but since then the Giants went 8-1 on the road going into the playoffs. This is also a team whose best wide receiver Plaxico Burress played remarkably well with a high ankle sprain much of the season. New York seemed very effective in getting to Tom Brady during the course of the game, they where constantly rushing him out of the pocket and forced him to make less accurate passes, New York's defensive front seven sacked Tom Brady 5 times during the course of the night. Despite being overlooked all regular season the Giants pulled upset after upset after upset in the playoffs.
During the course of the regular season it seemed that each week New England played the media had another story going along with the weeks game. Weather it be spygate or a reunion with Eric Mangini, the Patriots overcame any obstacle and ended Sunday with a victory all season long. This leading the media and many fans to believe that Bill Belichick's team had either thrown away or televisions or have the ability to win under any circumstances. The New York Giants proved that the Patriots mortal and beating them is possible, and left fans and others wondering if Tom Brady's ankle which had been in a boot all week was really bothering him, or how much did the Randy Moss allegations really get into the minds of the Patriots. During the game after Tom Brady failed to convert on 4th and 10 and it became certain the the Giants where going to win, with.02 seconds left on the clock Bill Belichick showed the side of him that was behind all those quiet press confrences, as he rushed across the field to shake hands with Tom Coughlin then left the field. The cowardly act told fans around the world that Bill cant face it the lights when the score is not favoring him. One of the best coaches in the National Football League will always be remembered for this act of shame in the Super Bowl.
After the confetti had cleared the Giants stood tall accomplishing the one thing that everyone but those faithful had written off. Eli showed the world that their is more than just one Manning in the football as he headlined the Super Bowl catch with that Gymnastic third down conversion to David Tyree. Super Bowl 42 had all the ingredients for a perfect game with an undefeated team going up against a young team that some considered to have been lucky to make it. The end product of the Super Bowl was everything that a fan could hope for and one that will leave enthusiast talking for a long time.
