We all remember the National Lampoon Vacation movies. Our last vacation could have been made into a movie.
This past November, my husband, my daughter, our one year old grandson and myself set out for Colorado. My Mom had moved there after the death of my father, had a house built and we were going to spend her first Thanksgiving with her in her new home and pick up our motorhome (which she had been living in until her house was finished). The trip there was uneventful and we had a wonderful visit, until Thanksgiving day.
My daughter had woke me up early in the morning to let me know she could not keep anything down, she had the flu. I sent her back to bed, and decided to get up and start coffee. A bit later, my Mom got up and said she was not feeling good, but decided to get a cup of coffee and help me get the turkey stuffed and into the oven. Once the turkey was in the oven, Mom said she wasn't feeling good and headed back to bed. She was sick now and could not keep anything down now either. My husband was still in bed, so I went to wake him up and he was sick also. The only ones who didn't have the flu were me and my one year old grandson. So in between cooking and cleaning, I was feeding, changing and running after him. I called the rest of the family and told them not to come over since everyone was sick, but my Aunt came anyway. She got some turkey, left some ham and headed over to her daughters. I spent the rest of the day playing with my grandson and eating Thanksgiving dinner by myself in front of the TV before finally heading to bed.
The next morning, the day we were due to leave and head home, I woke up around 6:30am, but it seemed too dark. I sat up and looked out the window and got a surprise. It was snowing. Not just a little snow either. I got up and went to look at the motorhome and car and there was no way we were going to be able to get the motorhome off the mountain, much less the car. After much discussion and watching the weather, we called my nephew who said he could come plow the driveway so we could get out, but it would be in the afternoon. That was fine, we had breakfast, finished packing and then waited. And waited. The snow finally stopped around 1, and after the plowing was finished, we were able to leave around 2pm. The drive out of town was no problem at all. In fact, the drive all the way to Santa Fe was great. We stopped for dinner in Santa Fe and decided since it was still a bit early, we would
