Tips for collecting Mercury dimes

The Winged Liberty Head, otherwise known as the Mercury Dime is a fascinating coin to collect for a variety of reasons. Stunning beauty, Investment, Fun, Cost, History and the list goes on. Although it is true that to put together an uncirculated set of this particular series will put you back many thousands of dollars. You can put together a set for a substantially smaller amount if you leave out the key dates and settle for good to very good grade / meaning condition of coin. One of the most beautiful US Dimes ever produced. Mercury (The winged liberty is featured on the obverse wearing a Phrygian Cap a symbol of liberty with its wings intended to symbolize freedom of thought along with the word liberty. In God we Trust, the date and in some cases the mint mark. On the reverse you'll find Fasces with an olive branch intended to symbolize America's readiness for war and at the same time desire for peace.

The series starts in 1916 through 1945. Another interesting aspect of these coins is that no dime was minted in 1922, 1932 or 1933. With a little effort and a lot of patience you can put together this awesome set. A fantastic item to collect, give as a present or just keep as an investment. Certain pieces like the 1916 D will be very difficult and costly to obtain. But even this rare key date coin with a mintage of only 244,000 coins can be had for around a thousand dollars.
