How to download movies to an iPod

There are a couple easy ways to download movies to your iPod. Hopefully you have a video iPod, otherwise, there would be no point to putting a movie on it, especially if it doesn't even have a screen.

Having movies directly on your iPod can be very useful. If you are stuck on an overseas flight, you may need to stay sane. You can also watch parts of movies while waiting for the dentist or at work when the boss isn't looking. It sure makes a hospital stay more relaxing whether you're the one visiting or the one being visited.

First, you'll need to make sure you have room on your iPod for a movie. Most movies in the mp4 format (iPod format) are about 300 MB. Most likely, you'll have room for at least one movie. The smallest iPod Nano with video holds 4 Gigs, and the largest iPod video can hold a ridiculous 160 Gigs. You could probably fit 10 of your friends' entire libraries on a 160 Gig iPod.

The easiest way to get a movie for iPod is, of course, purchasing and downloading a movie straight from iTunes. You can find many movies such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Ratatouille, and National Treasure. Most movies are $9.99, but some can be $14.99. The only thing you would need to do after purchasing and downloading your movie is plug in your iPod to sync it.

If you have a movie file on your computer such as an .avi or .mpg, you can import it into your iTunes library and convert it to iPod format. This means you can put your home movies that you recorded with your video camera or cell phone on your iPod. To do this you need to click on "File" then "Add File to Library." This is where you choose your file. Once you have it in your library, you need to convert it. Find it, then right click on it, and select "Convert Selection for iPod." This may take a while. It could take a couple hours depending on how long the movie is. You might want to do it overnight. Once your file is converted, all you need to do is connect your iPod and sync it normally.

It seems like the best way is to buy a movie from iTunes since the other way takes quite a long time. Maybe Apple designed it that way for a reason.
