The pros and cons of medicating children with ADD or ADHD

You really have no choice that the one with ADD/ADHD will be suffering one way or another. If said person is on medication, then they will be torn daily between two different personalities. Most people say that the side effects of medication is not worth it, and some say that it is fine. Either way, there really isn't much point in trying to weigh out what is better and best, as it's rather pointless.

Being off of medication, one will be prone to entire impulsiveness and near irrationalness and absolutely no control over concentration and priorities. This lack of control is usually misunderstood as laziness, but it is really IMPOSSIBLE to concentrate. It's like telling an autistic kid to stop being autistic. You wish. Being on medication, one's whole body will feel more attuned to the world around them, as if it can actually connect, the person will be able to actually think and concentrate freely, and will be allowed to be much more rational about every decision that they make. The side effects of course are the problem(s): near, if not total loss of appetite (to the point of feeling sick upon eating, even if the person hasn't eaten in 24 hours and has been hiking the entire time), sometimes inability to express if not even have emotions, and other various emotional problems, it also tends to cause heart problems, though that depends a good bit on your genes.

Different people react to the medication differently, as their cases of ADD/ADHD will be of different calibers. I have a terrible case of ADD and others can't stand it when I'm on my medication, but when I'm off of it they say that I'm the best person to be around because I never get dull. I however hate being off of my medication most of the time, as far as concentration problems. My grades in school are all 96-100's besides my AP English class, which requires a large amount of homework, which I am entirely incapable of doing because my medication wears off before I can complete said homework.

As it is mainly a decision left to preference, the application of medication or lack thereof is a choice that should be left to your child. NO ONE ELSE.
