your spouse when you come home from work. Healthy relationships involve open communication about all subject matters, and trust in your friend to speak about troubling issues will lead to lifelong relationships. Loyalty to your friends means that you are willing to do whatever it takes to keep their friendship.
Display respect, trust and a mutual friendship with your spouse. Share in the common household duties, engaging your teens to help out as well. Not every chore should be specific to one individual. Emptying the dishwasher alleviates some work from your spouse and may even energize them slightly. Let your teens see you helping out selflessly, and asking nothing in return. The true measure of a friend is doing things with a smile even when they are things you would rather not be doing.
When you are all sitting around at dinner time, which is something that should be done on a regular basis, make sure you display the ability to listen as well as speak politely and respectfully. The key to having good friends is being a good friend. Listening is a key component of friendship, and the ability to listen without speaking is oftentimes just what the doctor ordered.
You should allow your children, within reason, to see firsthand some squabbles and differences of opinion that get resolved efficiently and effectively. Children need to realize that life, and people, are not perfect. There are blemishes and imperfections along the road, and they need to know how to appropriately deal with these issues. All healthy relationships are able to withstand stressful situations and pressure cooked happenings.
As long as you are a positive role model for your teens, they will know how to build life-long relationships that can be sustained and endure the test of time. Showing your children that you are vulnerable will enable them to tap into their sensitive side, which can come in mighty handy in times of trouble. Teens need to build lasting lifelong relationships, and as long as they share common goals, dreams, and aspirations, there will always be a linking bond between them that time can never erase.
