Suggestions for emailing digital photos

Most everyone has a digital camera nowadays and people like to share these pictures with friends, family members, colleagues. It is also possible some people want to publish an article in a newspaper, magazine or to sell a product.

A picture is certainly useful in these circumstances but you need to be aware about some difficulties when you want to email your digital pictures. Most digital cameras have now already a resolution between 8 and 12 megapixels and you will notice the files of your images are large and it is impossible to send these pictures in this format.

You can work around this problem if you transfer your digital pictures from your memory card to the hard disk of your computer you can check the format of your pictures and you will notice most of them are between 4 and 6 megabytes.

It is not impossible to send such large files in an email if you only send one or two pictures but even then the recipient might have difficulties receiving these files. It will take a long time before the mail comes in and it is even possible the sender and recipient will get problems. Your mail server often can't manage to send such large files. It depends for which purposes your picture will be used if you want to email your digital pictures. You can reduce the size but then your picture loses quality. The only way to make it possible to keep the same quality of the picture is zipping your pictures.

Zipping is a compression technique where you compress larger files to a smaller size but the recipient can always get the normal size back if he/she will unzip this file. It looks complicated but it is really easy. You only need zip software, for example WinZip, EasyZip etc. which can be used for as well zipping as unzipping files. The quality of your pictures may be important if they want to make a print out of the pictures. Only if your recipients want to use the pictures for these reasons you can consider making use of the zipping technique.

It is often recommended to use some other techniques if you want to email digital pictures to other people. The size and format are important issues if you want to send your digital pictures Your best option is to use the JPEG format because you will have fewer quality losses than other formats (for example GIF,TIFF, RAW etc.). Most digital cameras already store pictures in JPEG format if you upload them on your hard disk.

Resizing your pictures is a necessity if you don't zip your pictures. Most pictures programs have a feature
