Katie Couric Legs? What is going on here? On the left side of this Helium debate page, there is a link to Katie Couric legs! There is no way I can write to the "NO" side of this debate after seeing this. Old geezer Rather has all the right to give an opinion, whether or not you like the 60 Minutes left to live cast.
Katie has been downgraded to the marketable celebrity column of television personalities that are more believable relaying rumors on Access Hollywood than the CBS Evening News. Her ex-side kick Matt Lauer is no different. Why do we care so much about their personal lives? Why can't Al Roker just give us a weather forecast and not a weekly update on his stapled fat?
How could I possibly listen to Katie anchor important news with a serious ear when she is really a NYC celebrity? Even the name Katie sounds like a naive "Girls Gone Wild" candidate ready to expose all except what is important, the news. Dan was always "rather" annoying, but he wrenched people of information in my opinion. Katie seems like she forces her smile and tone to any story. She always seems angst about something.
She definitely does not click with a younger audience. Not like younger viewers want to see comedians, tattoos or use of regional lingo on the news, but she has not defined a convincing style for herself. She is like the Oprah for forty-year-old female divorcees from New York who just want to cash in the big rock and live like Sex in the City characters. Although, I would love for Lou Dobbs to take her place, let me stick to a woman who would be perfect to replace Katie, if ever removed.
Diane Sawyer! She is intelligent, experienced, well spoken and has a classic aura about her. She appeals to every age group and can hold her own in an interview. She is believable and has a voice that can match a story with ease. She is also respected internationally. Does Katie have a passport?
So! Mr. Rather may have be the crotchety old grandpa, but his comment about Katie was spot on and I feel he did have the right to say it. Walter Cronkite set a very high standard for the delivery of world news and to see it be replaced by entertainment means CBS cannot focus.
