Biggest Loser recipes for weight loss

NBC's prime time hit The Biggest Loser, a diet-survivor reality game show, promotes healthy eating and exercise as the recipe for weight loss.

Viewers watch as morbidly obese contestants exiled from the real world, family, and friends, make amazing body transformations over an 8 month period. The first four being spent on the Biggest Loser campus/set with the aid of personal trainers Gillian Michaels, Bob Harper and a slew of off-screen medical and psychological professionals.

The second 4 months, contestants go home where away from the cameras they implement their newly acquired weight loss education. The show culminates with The Biggest Loser finale in front of a live audience with contestants weighed for the last time in a bid for prize money for the highest percentage of weight lost and the title of The Biggest Loser.

Celebrity chef Rocco Dispirito recently appeared on Season 5 as a judge for a healthy cooking food challenge. Contestants were challenged to shop, prepare and cook a healthy and low calorie, appetizer, entre, and dessert for host Alison Sweeney and Chef Rocco.

Contestants adapted Chef Rocco's recipes and exchanged some ingredients to reduce the fat and calorie content. The recipes included: Shrimp Scampi, Fried Scallops, Sirloin Steak with Kale and Mustard, Thai Salmon Sate and Fresh Oranges with Jack Daniels and Yoghurt. Hardly what you'd imagine as diet food. The Thai Salmon Sate is delicious.

Although the program has its fair share of sponsor product placement, viewers soon realize that food doesn't have to be tasteless in order to help with weight loss. Replacing high fat meats with chicken and turkey and drinking water instead of soda are some of the many ways to make changes to your waist line.

If you're stumped for some fast food alternatives, you can consult The Biggest Loser Cookbook by Chef Devin Alexander. It hit book-stands in Season 3 and contains over 100 healthy recipes with a short guide to exercise and losing weight.

The philosophy behind The Biggest Loser is that small changes can make big differences not only in the food that you eat but in your exercise and the way you think about weight loss. Go to their NBC website to find some interesting and healthy recipes and ideas.
