The other day, I asked a friend of mine, "How are you doing?" She hesitated for what seemed too long and then she simply said, "I guess I'm fine." Immediately I knew what was coming next. She'd go into a long rendition of her bad luck in life. I need to make a mental note to remember to get psyched up before I ever ask that question of her again.
Do you know those people who, when asked how they are doing, will actually tell you? They'll go on and on as if they are the only ones who have had a problem, and before you can say anything, they'll tell you all about how they hate their spouse, their job and their house. Before you hang up the phone, you'll feel as if you've been hit by an eighteen wheeler truck.
Some people tend to suck you dry by their negative side. If you don't watch out for those who waste your time and bleed you dry, it can affect your day and maybe even your life. The reason, I believe, is that we are attracted to those things we feel and believe. If someone you have to be around is negative all the time, it's likely that you will become negative too.
Negative energy is a powerful thing, but remember this. Positive energy beats negative things.
For every negative thing my friend says to me, I try to include a positive thing or two. For example, when she says she's feeling, "Okay," in a negative way, I reply, "Okay is better than horrible any day, right?" What else can she do but laugh?
Sometimes you'll need to create distance between you and all that negative energy. If you don't, you might find that you've become too depressed to be able to move on in life. People can pull you down in a pit with them. No one likes to be alone in the Twilight Zone, so be careful of how you choose your friends. If you find someone you relate to, it's probably due to your circumstance at the time, so if you're in a negative frame of mind, it might be wise to put off new friendships for a while. Otherwise, you'll be trapped into the negative friendship long after you've moved on, to more positive things.
When we surround ourselves with positive energy, we find that we are happy all the time. Nothing can stop us in life. We still grieve for the loss of things, but we find that we can release the grief much quicker too.
Remember this.
Thoughts become things.
