Movie analysis: Scary Movie I

Scary Movie 1 was the start of a series of famous horror movie spoofs. This article will give you the facts about the first Scary Movie. The plot is mainly influenced by the 1996 thriller, Scream. A group of teenagers get stalked by a serial killer a year after disposing of a corpse of a man they accidentally hit, similar to I Know What You Did Last Summer. The main character, Cindy Cambell, is played by Anna Faris, and Bobby Prinze (Jon Abrahams), Buffy Gilmore (Shannon Elizabeth), Greg Phillipe (Lochlyn Munro), Ray Wilkins (Shawn Wayans), Brenda Meeks (Regina Hall), with Carmen Elektra as Drew Decker. The film plays at 88 minutes, and is rated R for strong crude sexual humor, language, drug use and violence. Surprisingly the movie got many horrid reviews, saying it was just another Teen movie but it seems that people liked it enough for them to make 3 sequels with another on the way, originally when the movie was created, it was said that there would be no sequels so on the boxes of Scary Movie 2, the words NO SEQUELS' was crossed out with a red X.

Scary Movie parodies Scream, oddly enough it was produced by the same company who did Scream, Dimension Studios. It also spoofs over a dozen other movies including Psycho, The Exorcist, Grease, The Shining, Revenge of the Nerds, Beetle Juice, Candyman, Friday the 13th, The Blair Witch Project, A Nightmare on Elm Street, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and more. Even though it is a comedy written by the Wayan Brothers, it retains some of the feel you would expect from a horror movie, people are murdered by a goofy Scream rip off, in a similar manner to the actual Scream. Despite the reviews Scary Movie received, a few awards were given to it, including MTV award for best Cameo, a BMI Award, and a Blockbuster Entertainment Award. One entertaining thing to look out for when you watch this movie is the mistakes that are clearly visible, including a large wire hanging on to a piano that rolled down the stairs, a car's light breaks but a moment later it is fixed, a woman who is nude suddenly has a towel covering her, a character's bottle refills, a knife switches places in the killer's hands, you can see that handcuffs weren't and more. The funny thing is that some of the goofs were on purpose, such as a woman walking by three times. This is mentioned later in the movie, while others like recording equipment being shown is accidental. I hope you enjoyed reading this page about Scary Movie.
