What is the best form of travel?

The best form of travel is probably best left up to the traveler. Everyone knows what they like or dislike about traveling and will choose their mode of travel accordingly. Of course then there is the first time traveler and it is with this traveler I will share some insight.

How a person travels is directly affected by how much time he or she has to travel. If someone is just going on a weekend getaway then they might want to consider flying if the distance is greater than a couple hundred miles. If, however, someone has a week or two many other possibilities come into play.

My wife and I love to travel. We have taken cruises and have taken road trips. One cruise we took combined a six hour road trip with the cruise. We don't leave out flying either. We love the non-stop action of Las Vegas and most of the time we fly there.

My personal favorite way to travel is either by car or RV. Now I know this takes much more time than flying but don't you think you miss so much when you fly? I have driven from my home to Vegas and California several times and I love to see how some places change and others forever remain the same. I also like to take different routes on the return trips to see places I haven't seen before.

Traveling in a RV adds another dimension to the travel mix. When the traveler gets tired, he or she doesn't have to search for a good motel because it's right there with them all of the time. Americas' highway and interstate systems have great rest areas placed at fairly regular intervals along these highways. Most of them are well maintained and well lit at night. Also there are many places like Wal Mart that will let the RV traveler park in their parking lot to rest for the night.

The mode of travel I use is usually dictated by time constraints. I find that some of the best times my wife and I have had traveling are the unplanned, spur-of-the-moment trips. It doesn't matter what mode of travel you use as long as the end result is rest, relaxation and most important, fun recreation.

My wife and I plan to retire in about five years. In retirement we plan to travel more and be home much less. The RV will make this much easier and less expensive to do.
