Vince Lombardi is the most influential person to coach in any sport. He was so important to football that they now play for the Vince Lombardi Trophy. This is the reward for becoming the Super Bowl Champions. This trophy is named after one of the greatest football coaches to ever step on the football field. He is most popular for his amazing pep talks, and quotes. He is also one of the most successful coaches in history. Unlike Dan Marino, Lombardi had little trouble winning the big game. He won 5 league titles in his career, and only lost 1 championship (his first attempt). This man had an amazing way of relating to his players, and pushing them to their limits. He demanded nothing but the best from every one of them and this is why he was one of the best. He could motivate his players and create an amazing atmosphere to play. His players played in terrible conditions but seemed to always prevail. Lombardi loved competition and was an amazing person. If you were lucky enough to ever meet this gentleman, you were truly a blessed individual, and should have cherished the meeting forever.
Vince Lombardi didn't see himself as a football coach. He saw him self as a true leader and teacher. He prepared his players for more than a game of football. He prepared them for the harsh reality of the real world. He asked for nothing but perfection, and demanded respect. This was the type of man that you truly respected, but you loved. In one of his famous quotes he said "Football is a great deal like life in that it teaches that work, sacrifice, perseverance, competitive drive, selflessness and respect for authority is the price each and every one of us must pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile." This is a perfect example of how he would lead his players to more than just a football game. He believed that by hard work and sacrifice you could achieve anything.
Lombardi is also knows for his amazing mental toughness. In his 9 years as a head coach in the NFL he was rarely outcoached. He understood that to win a football game, you had to earn it. Knowing this allowed him to properly prepare his football players for war. Part of his preparation for his games was teaching his players to be mentally tough and confident. Lombardi was quoted as saying "Confidence is contagious and so is lack of confidence, and a customer will recognize both." When he said this I believe he was saying that the opponent would be like a shark and smell blood,
