1. Be inventive. If you are at all artistic, found objects can be extremely eye catching.
Glass can often be transformed into beautiful pieces of
jewelry, while other object can simply be collaged into a mixed media art work.
Even old scraps can be quite useful in, appropriately titled, scrap booking.
2. Throw a garden party! Any kind of old container can be easily decorated and used
as a flowerpot. This will not only fill your home and yard with wonderful flowers,
but your one of a kind flower pots will make you the envy of all your gardening neighbors!
Broken glass, mirrors, bits of metal, and other things of the like can also be transformed
into unique wind chimes or mobiles.
3. Reuse! Old 2-liter coke bottles can be rinsed and refilled. This makes for an excellent
water storage, Normal water bottles are also easily washed and refilled, as can plastic
food containers, such as sour cream and cottage cheese containers. Not only is this good for the
environment, but you also save money on Tupperware!
4. Learn to sew. Old clothing can be quilted, rather than disposed of. Not a fan of
quilts? T-shirts are especially easy to altar. There are even books which give
simple instructions on way to resize or even remake your old t-shirts. From skirts
to bags, old clothes can be redesigned into practically any thing! If you really do
not feel inclined to sew, the most simple solutions would be to turn your old
clothing into cleaning rags. If this is still too much work for you, then put your old
clothes in a bag and take them to Good Will or any other thrift/ charity shop.
Someone will want your old stuff, so do not throw it away.
5. Actually RECYCLE your old stuff. Nearly all plastics, metals, glass, and paper can
be recycled at a plant near you! If you would rather not take the time to drive out
to the recycling plant, many trash pick up services also provide recycling pick up.
The Yellow Pages can also provide many recycling pick up services.
