Witchcraft and the Internet

to the internet. Sure, as with all things, a person needs to be careful of what information they decide to glean from the web sites they peruse. Common sense and good judgment must always prevail. But there are a number of good sites out there that can teach a beginner or help along a long-time follower. Some excellent sites to try for information are Pagan News (www.pagannews.com) or Wicca and Paganism (paganwiccan.about.com). Another great site for articles, books, stories and music is The Pagan Library (www.paganlibrary.com). A great site for information and an email newsletter is Celtic Whispers (www.celticwhispersezine.com/) .

Since its emergence into mainstream society, the internet has been a superb place for shopping. A survey would probably indicate that people shop as much, if not more, on the internet then they do in stores. As well as buying a person can sell their trades, crafts, or excess items and make a profit all from sitting at their computer. For many practicing witchcraft, a problem is getting supplies. Typically, a person who is practicing paganism or witchcraft are going to use incense, candles, gemstones, smudge sticks, herbs, sea salt and objects that are designed with pagan symbols. These items are not always readily available at the corner market. But, they can be easily purchased on the internet at any number shops. Ebay (www.ebay.com) and iOffer (www.ioffer.com) are two great sites to not only buy, but also to sell your own pagan and witchcraft items. Azure Green (www.azuregreen.com) is an excellent place to shop from and many offline pagan stores will replenish their inventory from here. Most pagans will have heard of Azure Green.

For many practitioners of witchcraft, the internet provides support. There are not a lot of offline support groups for pagans. It is not a community resource to be found in most communities, such as a Women's Shelter, Human Services, hospitals, Community Centers, legal advice, etc. Support needs to be found online. There are laws protecting people as individual people but there are no laws protecting individual groups and with paganism or witchcraft being so widely feared, a group gathering may get slandered or told to disband despite the fact that people (in the general sense) have the right to peaceful public gatherings or demonstrations. Just driving home from a pagan store with a fresh supply of dried rosemary, thyme, or other harmless green herb might arouse suspicions if stopped because of the fact
