SWEET AND HOT BARBECUE SAUCE

This sauce is delicious served on top of B-B-Q chicken, pork or ribs. A sweet and mild version of this sauce can be made by omitting the red pepper flakes. This recipe can easily be doubled if desired.

INGREDIENTS FOR THE BARBECUE SAUCE:
One (6 ounce) can tomato paste
1/4 cup cider vinegar
1/4 cup molasses
1/4 cup brown sugar - packed
2 tablespoons honey
1 cup water
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon salt

DIRECTIONS FOR THE BARBECUE SAUCE:
Add all the ingredients to a sauce pan and stir until the tomato paste is well incorporated. Bring to a boil over medium heat, turn the heat down to low and simmer for one hour, stirring occasionally. The sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 months. This recipe makes approximately 1 1/2 cups of barbecue sauce.
