PUT SOME PUNCH INTO YOUR PRESENTATION
You've done the research. You've created your charts and graphs. You've written a whiz-bang speech. You've even created your PowerPoint slides. Now, let's get to work adding the "punch" that will help you stand out from the crowd!
Microsoft PowerPoint comes equipped with some awesome special effects, such as slide transitions, text animation, voice recording, and timing controls. These audio-visual effects can take your presentation to the next level. However, exercise caution-too much of a good thing will detract from your speech. Keep it simple and uniform throughout. Don't startle your audience by introducing something different with each slide.
ADD SLIDE TRANSITIONS WITH SOUND EFFECTS: A transition determines how a slide steps to the next slide. Slides can move in from an edge, fade in, appear from the center, and many other ways. You can change the speed of a transition with the Speed control. You can even add a sound effect to the transition with the Sound control. For a professional appearance, use the same transition for all your slides.
ANIMATE YOUR TEXT: Animation Schemes are added to text much like transitions are added to slides. You can add sound to these animations too. This can easily be overdone, so add text animation and sound effects sparingly.
RECORD YOUR NARRATION: If you plan to distribute this presentation via the web or on a CD try adding your own voiceover narration. This is easier than it sounds. You record your speech while clicking through your slide show. Your voice and timing are saved together.
Before distributing your presentation, ask someone else to run through it and critique it. This is an important step. They will be able to tell you if they can understand your narration, or if the animation is a distraction or an asset.
These steps can turn an ordinary presentation to a real standout. Used in moderation multimedia customizations will put your presentation heads above the competition. After all, isn't getting their attention in the first place the most important first step in getting the sale? Have fun experimenting and good luck on your next slide production.
