Kenton comes from the the personal name of the family who owned "the farm of Coena". This small settlement centered around Kenton Lane before the 20th century. The main road through this area is now called Kenton Road.
POPULARITY:
Kenton's popularity peaked between 1950 and 1960, with a steady decline in popularity until 1997.

-Stuart Pearce, an England footballer, as well as Annette McLaughlin, were a students at Claremont High School in Kenton.
-Denis Compton lived in Kenton.

The song makes reference to the "pleasant valley", which refers to lack of things to do in and around Kenton. It has also been said that "Kenton Kev" may refer to Kevin Jones, who was the US-based property magnate. Kevin Jones was also born in Kenton. The writers of the song "Kenton Kev" also grew up and lived in the Kenton area.
