How foodies use the Internet

The most important thing that the Internet provides is access. This increased access to knowledge and information has changed the way the world works. Word of mouth now knows no bounds. Distance falls away and sellers of rare or unusual items or services are readily accessible to any one who chooses to look for them. For foodies this has opened up the world of international cuisine. Obscure ingredients, cooking utensils and techniques are now a click away. Restaurants can be researched and critiqued and the on line community of food lovers grows constantly.

Many on line recipe sites allow registered users to share, rate and review recipes. If you love food, and particularly cooking, it can be very rewarding and enlightening to connect with other foodies. Sharing tips and hints on improving or shortcutting recipes with fellow enthusiasts is a great way to increase your own knowledge and promote your hobby. If you are looking at sites with recipe reviews it is important to remember that the reviewer may not really know what they are talking about. Their idea of cuisine may be more tinned than timbale.

The Internet has also created a wonderful cross marketing opportunity for celebrity chefs and restaurateurs. You can enjoy their food in the restaurant, then recreate your experience at home using the same custom blended herbs and spices. Many chefs have their own signature cooking utensils, web sites with cooking tips, recipes and a whole host of merchandise you can have delivered to your door.

Visiting a new town, even a new country, no longer means taking a chance on an unknown restaurant. The on-line community stretches around the globe and without a doubt you will find reviews of restaurants in almost any place you visit. Again you have to be aware that the reviewers opinions are just that, their tastes may differ from yours. One persons five alarm chili can be another persons morning snack. It is also really important to take note of how up to date the reviews are. Restaurants are only as good as the chefs that work there!

The Internet offers a wonderful channel of communication for foodies and restaurateurs. Anyone who loves food, benefits when information and resources are shared. As people become more interested in exactly what is in the food they eat, where it comes from and how it is prepared and cooked, the Internet provides the perfect tool.

For the restaurant owner, the Internet offers the perfect place to showcase your vision for your restaurant. Your
