Many women wonder whether or not false fingernails are worth the money. The truth is there are several different kinds of false fingernails and each come with their own set of advantages and disadvantages, including pricing parameters.
Acrylic nails are essentially false plastic nails that are glued onto your nails beginning at the nail bed. While these false nails are often the easiest to maintain and the most durable, they can also damage your nails quite a bit. Once the false plastic has been glued onto your nail, the manicurist will brush over a chemical acrylic compound to harden the nails and give them more of a "real" look.
Unlike acrylic nails, tips are (as the name states) simply artificial nail tips that are added to the ends of your already existing nails. Many individuals swear by tips rather than acrylic nails because your natural nails are not harmed underneath chemical compounds and continue to receive adequate amounts of oxygen, even growing. Salons will often vary in price range when it comes to faux nail tips, so check with your preferred salon for their specific prices.
With any false fingernails, there are plenty of benefits as well. Of course, you'll end up with perfectly manicured hands. Underneath, your nails will still grow, however they may be a bit more sensitive and softer after you've taken your false fingernails off than if you had never had them on in the first place.
Also, if you're pressed for time (i.e. weddings or special occasions), false fingernails are a great way to ensure that your hands look beautiful in no time! You don't have to wait for months until your nails grow out to your desired length. And there is no upkeep in the months or weeks before. Just get some false nails in the days before your event, and you'll be good to go.
There are some downsides, however. Acrylic nails, for example, can become easily infected. Often water becomes trapped in the nail beds and causes your nails to rot for lack of exposure to oxygen. Other times, manicure equipment that has not been properly sterilized can also lead to infections. So, be sure that if you do choose to use false nails, you go to a professional manicurist at a reputable salon who can vouch for his or her services with the appropriate licensing and documentation.
In any case, the bottom line is that no matter what kind of false fingernails you choose, if you want to maintain their "perfect" appearance, you're going to have to put up the time and money it takes to keep them maintained. If you have time in your schedule and the money in your wallet to get your nails done at least once every two weeks, then false fingernails are a great alternative to attempting to let your nails grow out.
