blankets are much-needed items for newborns. When you burp your baby you need to be able to have a quick little cloth ready in case of any spit up or reflux. The receiving blankets are also good for swaddling or simply just covering your baby up with a light blanket.
THERMOMETER: It is helpful to have one of these on hand in case your baby starts to run a fever for some reason. The first thing the doctor will ask you when you call is "what is the baby's temperature". These are rather inexpensive and there are a variety of them on the market to suit your needs.
ONESIES: Save the cute outfits for a few months. For the first few weeks your newborn will do best with onesies and one-piece sleepers. Baby gowns are helpful for those middle of the night diaper changes too.
BABY LOTION/SOAP: Baby lotion, soap, and powder is a must have. It is the best way to keep that baby skin "baby soft."
BABY SWING/BOUNCER: Baby swings and bouncers can be considered by some as items that you do not need, however if you have a fussy or colicky baby, these items can be a lifesaver.
DIAPERS/WIPES: You cant forget the most obvious of necessities: diapers and wipes. I would stay away from stocking up on newborn size diapers as babies grow very fast in the first days home. Instead, size one and size two should get you by for the first couple of months.
THINGS YOU DO NOT NEED

Boppy Nursing Pillow- This is a very nice item, especially for nursing moms, however a regular bed pillow will work just as well for feeding baby. If you are a mom of multiples, then a boppy is essential. Actually, if you are a mom of multiples, a FEW boppies are essential.
Changing Table: Again, these are nice, however unless you plan on putting two or three tables throughout your home, then they are not practical. If you only have one changing table and you have it in the nursery, then you would have to make sure you always went to the nursery for diaper changes. This is not practical if you have twins or better yet, if the changing table is upstairs and you spend most time downstairs.
Pack and Play: These are nice items, however, many parents purchase them and only use the bassinet portion. After that, they most likely become toy boxes, hampers, or storage ares. Some pack and plays come with changing stations as well, which is nice, but changing your baby on a blanket on the floor works too.
Baby Monitors: A nice to have item but trust me,
