Things you need for your first baby

There is so much excitement and joy when you have your first baby. Most new moms can't wait to run to Babies R Us and create a baby registry filled with what they think are "must have items" for their new little bundle of joy. While there are tons of cute little outfits and cool gadgets on the market for babies, you really only "need" a few things for your newborn. A lot of the rest of the stuff collects dust or ends up in a storage closet, never used or used only once. So what items do you absolutely need for your first baby? Well it is basically trial and error, however here is a list of items that are most needed.

CRIB: This is an essential item that should be at the top of every new mom's list. Even if you plan to co-sleep, you should still have a crib for when you transition your baby to their own sleeping area or when someone is sick.

TRAVEL SYSTEM: Travel systems are necessary. They usually include the stroller and an infant car seat that would clip into the stroller.

BASSINET: When you first bring your newborn home, you need somewhere for your little bundle of joy to sleep and still be close to you. Bassinets are nice because they are easily portable and you can place it by your bed for access throughout the night or even place it in common areas around the house. Bassinets are smaller than cribs so baby can feel more secure and comfortable.

BOTTLES: Even if you are breastfeeding, it is helpful to have bottles on hand in case your husband or friend would like to help feed your newborn. An extra supply of nipples for the bottles can't hurt either.

DIAPER BAG: I am sure you will not be sanctioned to the house in the first weeks after having a baby. It is helpful to get out and about and let your baby get some fresh air and you can get exercise as well. It also helps with overcoming the baby blues. Diaper bags are perfect because you can throw all of your baby's needs for an outing into the bag. Make your life even easier and buy two and keep a pre-filled bag of necessities in your car.

MYLECON GAS DROPS: Most newborns have problems with gas and bloated tummies. The mylecon drops are a lifesaver when you have a fussy infant at 3am.

SWADDLE BLANKET: It is a proven fact that babies enjoy the swaddling effect when they are first born. It is very hard to achieve that perfect swaddle with a receiving blanket. Therefore swaddle blankets are ideal as you usually just put your baby in them and wrap them up into the perfect swaddle.

BURP CLOTHS: Burp cloths and receiving
