Perfume reviews: Christina Aguilera

CHRISTINA AGUILERA hails her personally inspired perfume as a result of "personal memories and reflecting her playful sexiness". Imagine all of that in one bottle! Sounds exotic.

From Cleopatra to Marilyn Monroe, women have for centuries been fascinated by the pleasures of body fragrances that make them feel and smell beautiful and prove to be a powerful attraction for men.

In her own words, Christina she describes the concoction thus :
"To me jasmine has always been synonymous with old movie star glamor. It is such a beautiful scent and has great heritage in traditional perfumery, which I love. The blackcurrant tea note for me captures the vibrancy and happiness of my honeymoon. Its fruity, mouth watering scent reminds me of sitting on our Bali veranda in the heat, looking out over the most gorgeous sunset while sipping a cool, refreshing cocktail".

The decision for some consumers on whether to buy or not, will depend to an extent on their opinion of Christina. Is she still a favorite with the girls who buy fragrance on the strength of the celeb?

The modern trend in celebrity perfume has opened the door for countless new fragrances to hit the market with celebrities from all walks of life giving their names to a variety of scents and colognes. The rich and famous are used to sell anything and everything in today's celebrity mad world, from hair shampoo to shaving razors.

Adding a celebrity face has proved to be a lucrative marketing ploy designed to have consumers buying the fragrance on the basis of the person promoting it rather than on the actual product itself.

The list of celebrity scents has become exceptionally long with everybody who's anybody jumping on the fragrance bandwagon. Could it really be that consumers will buy a perfume based on the face that promotes it? Apparently so.

Will the scent promoted by the celebrity, become stale when the famous person does? Someone may be flavor (or smell) of the month at the moment, but when they fall from grace and popularity, will the fragrance no longer be desirable?

Celebrity scents come and go much in the same way as the celebrities themselves. They both have a shelf life. The popularity of the numerous icon fragrances is an indication of the celebrity culture that has developed in the western world in particular.

The marketing gurus know only too well the sales will rise in relation to the status of the personality involved. The publicity machine will keep rolling until the star fizzles and it's time to move on to a new one. How much time does Christina Aguilera at the top?

The implication to the consumer is that the superstar wears the scent or cologne they promote, therefore you should wear it too.
The bottom line for the consumer should be to ignore the face on the packaging and test the fragrance before buying.

Should you buy CHRISTINA AGUILERA?
Perhaps the question is : Is she still your top of the pops?
