There are SO many cute little options that you can buy someone for a baby shower. In fact, there are so many that if you want to stay under $20 you may want to plan ahead to make it go the farthest that you can. If not, you will either be overwhelmed with nothing in your cart ... or spend WAY more than you bargained for because it ALL looks cute and/or useful.

Thought it may not be the most imaginative option, if you want your money to go toward something bigger you can opt to either buy a store gift-card for wherever your friend has registered, or if you know several other people going to the shower call them early to see if they would like to pool money together to buy a larger item. This will help the new mommy purchase very useful, but often overly expensive items such as a crib, walker, activity center, high chair or stroller.

If you'd rather not give a gift card and pooling money with others isn't possible - the following suggestions under $20 should make any mommy-to-be very happy:

MAKE A DIAPER CAKE

If you haven't had a child yet of your own this may sound like a very boring gift - but in fact, when that newborn baby comes home the new mommy will be so very thankful to have a big supply of diapers at home, ready and waiting. This ensures that she doesn't have to take the newborn out to stores etc. for awhile, and is more than just diapers - it's a convenience. If you want to cute up the diapers you can turn them easily into a cute baby shower decoration called a diaper cake. Largely, a diaper cake is at least two sizes of diapers shaped into a layer cake. Pretty ribbon can hold the layers together and it can be topped with dollar baby items to stay within budget (such as pacifiers and baby rattles) or you can also top with silk flowers.

BABY MEDICINE CABINET

A new mommy might not think to stock up on baby meds until the little one is already sick. Save her or the new daddy a trip to the store on a late night fever emergency run by purchasing such things as infant Tylenol drops, Mylecon Gas Relief Drops, Infant thermometer, a nasal aspirator and daily use items such as infant sunscreen, diaper rash ointment, teething relief ointment and the like. She'll thank you for it later! Often you can find a baby medicine kit with several of these bundled together. If not, make your own by buying an inexpensive plastic container and filling it. Decorate a tiny teddy bear with a mini nurse hat, or doctor coat if you still have money to stick with the theme.
