Perfume reviews: Christina Aguilera

If you're in the fragrance business picking a celebrity to name a perfume after makes the product instantly recognizable and has instant appeal to that celebrity's fan base.

The gorgeous and seductive entertainer Christina Aguilera has a fragrance named after her which is marketed and owned by the multi-national Proctor and Gamble's UK & Ireland division.
This is not the first foray into the perfume world for the company better known for its laundry and kitchen products like Tide, Dawn and Febreze. P&G is also the parent to other prestige fragrances like Georgio Beverly Hills and Boss.

However with a celebrity like Christina Aguilera the marketing comes easy. Not only can this fragrance be promoted as "sexy, confident and supremely feminine", just like Christina. Apparently the ingredients of the fragrance have been inspired by her thoughts of old Hollywood and her Balinese honeymoon.

This type of marketing may lead you to sample the perfume although it's not widely available in the US. It is however a big seller in the UK and some parts of Europe. With any perfume it comes down to personal preference and the way a fragrance smells after being on your skin for an hour.

A British friend of mine adores the fragrance Christina Aguilera so I got to try it for myself. The first impression you get of the fragrance called the top note is a slightly sweet fruity citrus and blackcurrant aroma with a hint of jasmine.

The jasmine is part of the middle or heart note, the second of three parts called notes that make up perfumes. The middle note lasts longer than the top note and is often the perfume you smell half an hour after applying a fragrance.

In Christina Aguilera it's a floral scent although when I wear the fragrance, the jasmine seems to be more prominent.

The final piece in all fragrance puzzles is the base note which is often musk or sandalwood. This is the underlying ingredient which gives a perfume its body. In Christina Aguilera it's musk and vanilla which rounds out the fragrance. For me however, this perfume doesn't seem to last on my skin as long as other perfumes.

The Christina Aguilera fragrance is presented in a shapely hourglass figure bottle covered in intricate black lace, homage no doubt to Christina Aguilera's gorgeous feminine body and love of sexy and sensual rather than trashy.

With the downfall of Britney Spears, you may see Christina Aguilera's fragrance line hitting the shelves but until then it can be purchased at online perfume stores or in the UK and Europe.
