US elections 2008: Which party will win the presidency?

Without a doubt, I think the Democratic party will come out on top in this election. Just consider the options for a minute. A female president or an African American president is so fresh and rather controversial that Americans are excited and looking forward to that change. It's a promise to the nation that things will be different; equal rights will mean exactly that if anyone can be president.

Now I'm not saying that anyone and everyone will vote for either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama. Some people may like McCain for what he has to offer. It's all based on where each voter stands on what issues they find most important.

Still, these two candidates are motivated and certainly get enough attention. There could be a perfect presidential candidate we don't even know about yet because the press is only interested in the two Democrats. Maybe John Edwards was a top contender, but he wasn't "new and improved"; he was merely John Edwards, which the others liked to point out. Yet, it was his decision to drop out. He could probably only take so much talk about other candidates that it was bound to get to him.

If Clinton and Obama were representing different parties then it would probably come down to the two of them, but right now it is so hard to tell who will win for their shared party. As the votes are being tallied it could, and probably will change on a daily basis who's leading.

It will also help with the influence celebrities hold over Americans. If you are a fan of Oprah and hear that Oprah is supporting Obama maybe you decide you'll do the same, whether you're really supporting him or expressing your loyalty to Oprah. If you don't have an opinion of your own you can always agree with someone you admire, who might have a better head on their shoulders if you aren't sure. Anyone who has the ability to make up their mind on their own is probably eager to vote in this election and to be heard as more than an echo.

Quite a few Americans are dissatisfied with the current president and are looking forward to a new lead for the first time in a long time. The future seems bright and I believe we will have a Democrat to lead us next.
