How to tell if you are exploited by your employer

exploited by the land owners. It still exists today with immigrants, both legal and illegal, who must work on farms, in stores, restaurants, hotels and other business. Too often, owners can get away with paying as little as possible to increase their own profits without much regard for the needs of their employees.

Therefore, in an individual case, how can a worker tell when he/she is being exploited? Very simple. You know and resent the fact that your boss wants to hang on to as much of the company profits as possible, so you believe you just aren't getting paid enough. Unless you're ready to ship out to Cuba, China, Iran or Venezuela, you'll just have to make the best of it. And, the best doesn't mean sitting around griping about the unfair situation.

Other than punching your boss in the nose and quitting, there are several alternatives. How about getting yourself a better education so you're more qualified for higher pay? How about doing your job just a bit better, putting in more energy and proving you are worth more money? How about speaking up? If you really believe you're being exploited, how about calling for a sit-down with your boss, and with a positive attitude, show him/her ample proof and examples that you are qualified for a promotion, a good raise and/or a big, fat bonus.
