Testimonies: How my cats got their names

on a TV show that reminded me of a cat in a weird kind of way. Where I was brought up it seemed that everyone knew someone called Dave so we name another of the litter Little Dave. The third had diarrhoea when she was quite young so we named her Snitchy Poos.

Lord Odlam started of as just Odlam but has a very 'Lord' type manner so his name grew. His sister Princess Bodicia was named after an ancient Queen as we thought she, like her brother, had quite a royal manner. These two are Mackeral Tabbies who were rescued from being dumped outside of an animal shelter. Mr baggins was rescued from a similar fate and I'm sure everyone has heard of Bilbo Baggins who this black and white moggy is named after.

Tilt is a black moggy who is deaf and due to his condition it affects his balance. He walks with his head on a slight tilt hence the name 'Tilt'. He is such a sweet little boy who is best pals with Brin. Brin is a tabby and white tom who was going to be called Brian after another of my favourite TV show characters. However, I didn't think he looked like a Brian so he became Brin.

Doochy is a pure white female moggie who I was told was very aggressive and scratched furniture and was just generally not a very nice cat. I couldn't believe that someone could say something so harsh about such a sweet cat. I have had Doochy since she was very young and she is now two years old and one of the most gentle and loving cats I have ever known. Friends used to comment on how laid back she was so we named her Doochy. Some of you may understand why, others may not but it suits her mellow and relaxed nature very well.

My youngest is Ponglie, a 14 week old Mackerel Tabby. The son of one of my ex-breeding cats who I just fell in love with. He was rescued from the brink of death by heart massage and a lot of TLC as-well as bottle feeding him every two hours for his first few days. It reminded me of the miracle puppy on '101 Dalmations'. I thought about naming him Pongo but I like original names so I changed it slightly to Pongo.

So those are my 15 cats: Cookie, Guiness, Murphy, Salem, Tatie Spudkins, Snitchy Poos, Little Dave, Super Stu, Lord Odlam, Princess Bodicia, Mr Baggins, Doochy, Brin, Tilt and Ponglie.
