D.D.D
Detective Dieter Drake
The First Mystery

Chapter 3

The next day I headed over to Lucy's house to go over the case. I carried the collected evidence in my black case on the handlebars of my bicycle. I even put a padlock on the box so the it couldn't be tampered with. I've watched those detective shows, if the evidence could have even slightly had the chance to have been tampered with it wasn't permissible in court. I couldn't have that, this being my first real case and all. Bad evidence handling would surely spot my record as a super sleuth.

My tires screeched as I skidded to a stop in Lucy's driveway. I carefully picked up the evidence box and let my bike crash down onto its side. I knocked, but no one answered, so naturally I tried again, and again, and again.

Suddenly the door flew open and Lucy stood glaring at me, hair in tangles, wearing a blue bathrobe and yellow duck slippers.

"Nice slippers!" I joked but she was not amused.

"What do you want Dieter?" She growled at me.

"Gee, you don't have to be so...so... roar, you know. I had wanted to go over the case with you." I held up the black evidence box.

"Do you know how early it is?" She said leaning against the door.

"It's not that early. Eight..." I paused to look at my watch, "Oh seven thirteen. But that still is not that early Lucy, especially when you have something with this magnitude of importance to discuss."

"It is early Dieter! It's seven thirteen on a Saturday! I have a strict 'No waking up before ten on Saturday' rule!" She crossed her arms and gave me an angry sideways glance.
"Just come in!" She grabbed my shirt and pulled me in the door, "Have a seat on the couch and get ready. I'm going to go get cleaned up. Be back in a second."

"Alright." I went into the living room, the decor of which had a very nursing home feel to it. I guess because Lucy's grandmother designed it.

I started clearing off the coffee table in front of the flowered blue couch, removing vases, magazines and the seemingly hundreds of other various knick knacks that cluttered it. After I finished setting it aside, I took my homemade detective kit out of my pocket and unrolled it onto the couch beside me. I removed from it the small bottle of surface sanitizer and a paper towel. I had to clean off the dust and other grime from the coffee table, again I didn't want to risk anything happening to the evidence.

I sprayed and wiped until the table shined before putting the items back into the kit. Just then Lucy came in.

"What
