Best online job search engines and how to use them

As the Internet reaches out to all aspects of our lives, it's no surprise that many people have been looking to the Internet for employment. Job search sites have made it possible for the average web surfer to look through millions of job openings in an instant. Just as easily they can apply to the jobs, email a resume, and talk to their potential employers.

I personally have used several job search sites to find jobs and clients for my freelance graphic design work. I would like to take the time now the share with you the job search sites I like best, how to use them, and discuss their benefits and pitfalls. Hopefully by reading this article you'll be able to find a wonderful job by searching online.

Indeed.com

I really like Indeed.com. Indeed is a search engine that aggregates search results of millions of jobs on thousands of web sites including Monster.com, Careerbuilder.com, and Yahoo! Hotjobs. The web site is very easy to use only requiring that you type in a job that you are looking for and the city, state, or zip code live in. Click the "Find Jobs" button, and instantly you are shown hundreds of job opportunities relevant to what you were searching for.

From thee you can sort the results by relevance or the date they were created. I recommend checking both to not overlook a job. Another cool feature is the ability to change how close to your home the search results come from. Often you aren't going to search for jobs that are 50 miles away from where you live, so it's a good way to narrow your job results.

I also recommend creating an account with Indeed.com. By creating an account with Indeed, you can save job listings your interested in to check them out later, which comes in handy if you aren't ready to apply to them just let. You can also setup Indeed to send email updates about new jobs based on searches you've created in the past. That way all you have to do is check your email to be shown new job postings in your area!

Monster.com

Monster.com is by far the most popular job site on the net today. This web site is great because when you create an account, you can create a profile that tells employers about yourself, as well as upload a resume that employers can see. This is a great site that allows employers to search for you as well as you searching for them. I've had employers call me up and send me emails offering me jobs because of the resume I have on Monster.com. You can create 5 separate resumes on Monster.com, depending on what types of careers
