My top 10 comeback yearnings

The longer I inhabit this planet the more I add to the list of things I yearn to return. I assume that every generation has, at some point, yearned for simpler times, while at the same time embracing the novelty of new technology which makes life easier. Consider the housewife at the turn of the century. She cooked on a wood stove, washed laundry in a tin tub and a washboard, and frequently had to add ice to the icebox. Imagine the sense of change she experienced with the advent of the gas stove, the washing machine, and the electric refrigerator. She was grateful for the utility of these new inventions, but probably longed for the way things were prior to the changes progress brought.

I would like to see a return to values and morals in this country. A return to morality and Christian based values, such as those which were embraced by our founding fathers, would significantly reduce violence, welfare, unemployment, crime, and teen pregnancy. People would return to a level of mutual respect and would look out for one another, as they did in years of yore.

A return to the great musical talents of the 1980s would be refreshing. The music of today is seldom enough to prompt me to do more than change the channel. Music used to have meaning, particularly the progressive rock movement. Today's music seems shallow and commercial; in fact, in many cases, I wonder how these modern groups get paid for the work they do.

While we are summoning comeback categories, I believe we should bring back driving etiquette and highway safety. It is not enough to be reactive, as we currently are. We must pro-actively change the way we drive. There is so much more congestion these days and life is lived at such a high speed pace that there is no room for the arrogant or irresponsible driver, much less the street racers.

I would love to see a return to patriotism. We experienced this for a brief period following September 11, 2001, but we reverted back to the same old routine within a year. People in prior decades truly loved our nation and felt it was worth fighting and dying for. It would be nice if everyone would feel that way again.

I would like to see a comeback of the time prior to the political correct movement. The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees us freedom of speech, with certain exceptions (IE. saying bomb on an airplane or fire in a theater). The fact that someone's speech or beliefs is unpopular with a group of people should not bring negative sanctions
