Wedding Planning

Selecting a wedding date and time

You're getting married....GREAT! Now all the planning and spending of money begins. One of the biggest decisions a bride thinks about is finding the perfect wedding dress. The groom usually focuses on the reception-what kind of food and beverages there will be-and then the honeymoon. Sometimes in the whirlwind, the last thing you think about is setting the date; however, this is the most important. The date and time of your wedding changes everything from decor to dress style. I am getting married in April and I chose it because, my name is April and that should make for an easy reminder for my husband to be, also because Spring is my favorite season. The weather is usually nice and there are wonderful flowers blooming making for a beautiful outdoor wedding. The main thing the couple needs to think about is weather, dress style, type of reception wanted, location, and color-this all will help you pick your season and then eventually your actual date. If you love warm colors and wouldn't mind an indoor wedding or colder temperatures, then Fall would be the best. The natural foliage makes for a great back drop. If snow is your thing, Winter is for you! Also, having a Christmas wedding means a lot of places will already be beautifully decorated, so you can save money in that area. If you like it hot, Summer is best. Also, if you want a wonderful beach or tropical setting, summer makes for the best atmosphere-of course it will be HOT, so plan your dress style loose and breezy! Whatever season you choose, find what works best for your idea of a dream wedding. Another thing to consider is what type of ceremony you would like. If you want beautiful candle light then you'll have to figure out when the sun goes down in your area during that Season. If you want your reception to be like a cocktail party, then consider an evening wedding and reception. I opted for a 5:30 start to the wedding and 6:00 reception to allow for some daylight during the ceremony and eventual nightfall so we can enjoy candle lights. Another thing to consider is if you will have children at your wedding and reception. If you want children, you'll have to consider that younger children have early bedtimes, so an earlier time woudl work best.
