Guide to a makeover for your living room furniture

Those are the things we have collected, and want to display to bring a little extra into our decorating. An accessory can add to or take away from the color scheme, and room style. Often, choosing the right accessory is the hard part of decorating of the 10 percent that we view. Sometimes people put too many things in one spot, creating confusion, instead of harmony. The rule of thumb is to have no more than three items, three accessories in an area such as the coffee table, fireplace mantel, or display table. Three is the rule with accessories. Also, consider size. It is more appealing to have a hierarchy of size among the three pieces used. If you are using plants, have three different sizes of plants. If bowls, have three different sizes of bowls.

So, to review, you want to consider what will go in the 60 percent, 30 percent, and 10 percent of the room. You want to think in terms of a three part color scheme, dominating the entire room. Know that eyes point down, more than up. Plan carefully for a cool or warm inviting color scheme. Think of an appropriate decorating style that will work with the colors you like. Think of things to add to bring in interest, but do not over-populate the room with things, or with colors. Like Pope said many years ago, and I say it over and over to my son: "Order is Heavens first law." This applies to our decorating, and makes is heavenly endeavor.
