Depending on what you want out of life, the Primary Elections may seem to go on forever. How dare those debates conflict with your reruns of King of Queens. What are they thinking? You mean to tell me they took sports off for this garbage? All the candidates are the same, right, they never change anything. Well, I'm taking the stance that if any of this sounds like your view on American politics, then you probably feel that the Primary Elections seem to drag on forever.
I'm from the other side of America. The side that believes the power is still with the people. An illusion, that may well be. But if I'm to be fooled, I at least demand to know who's fooling me. Who are these puppet masters and what exactly are they trying to sell me. I need to know all the issues. It's not enough that the Democrats are all planning to stop Bush's war, I need more. Barack Obama, are you going to help healthcare? Make it affordable for every American? And if so, will you raise taxes through the roof? John McCain, will you lower taxes but make healthcare impossible to obtain unless you're upper middle class to rich?
I have these questions for all candidates. They each possess the potential to be our next President. I live in a relatively peaceful Virginia neighborhood. But that doesn't mean I'm sheltered in my life and that America's politics don't effect me. I'm a citizen, tried, true and proud to be born in this great nation. And I'm also a student of history. I know that a Democracy is by the people and for the people. Somehow, we've lost our way. It's not important to American's anymore.
What happens with a short Primary? You don't know who you're voting for. The political party system in this country, Republican and Democrat can be a cruel mistress. Some people will vote based only on current affiliation. Some will vote Obama simply because he's black, Hillary Clinton, simply because she's a woman, Mitt Romney, simply because he's a religious white male. These are all the wrong reasons! The Primaries continue on so long to give you a sense of who they are as people. Individuals. Where they stand on all the issues.
I'm not sure how people receive the multi-channel covereage of the debates. Are they infuriated that things in this country don't seem to be changing? And if so, how long have they been mad? Will your bitterness with politics keep you from the polls? I sure hope not. You can quit watching action movies with Bruce Willis because you know he will always beat the bad guy!
