Christmas is the time of year when everyone makes a special effort to get together. I always look forward to friends and family coming over for food and our nice visits. Our Christmas's have changed so much through the years, starting with my memories from my childhood. Jesus has always been a big part of our Christmas as well. We had our Manger Scene under our Christmas Tree, so that we all remembered from the time we were small that, "This Is The Day Jesus Was Born".
When I was young, Mom and Dad always tried to show us children a happy time that we could remember in years to come.
We would string popcorn to put on our live tree.
We all helped to decorate our Christmas Tree on Christmas Eve.
Then when that was done and we were all so excited, we would have a treat before being sent off to bed to wait on Santa. We always put out a plate of homemade cookies and some milk for Santa. There were five of us and not much money. My Dad worked hard to provide for all of us. The thing I remember most, besides our Christmas Tree, is my Dad and his Jingle Bells. He would give us all time to get almost to sleep and he would shake those "Jingle Bells". Of Course, we would say to each other, Santa is here, go to sleep. Sleep was so hard to come because of our excitement.Dad never did admit to shaking those Jingle Bells!
The next morning when we got up, Mom and Dad always made sure we had breakfast before we were allowed to open our Christmas gifts. After breakfast with the family, we would go to the "Christmas Tree". We didn't get piles of toys like our kids did, but I can still remember several Christmas's and special gifts for me and my sister and brothers. Christmas was always a special day with family, lots of love and Mom's scrumptious home cooked Christmas Dinner.
As I got older, got married and had my own home, Christmas always meant going to Mom and Dad's at some point during our day. We had to split our visits between both sets of parents. Somehow, we always made our way to our parents homes and also began to have our own special times. I love to decorate our Christmas Tree. I love the lights and Angels are my "Specialty", so my tree has Beautiful Angels on it. I still have my Manger Scene
