There are little ways to spruce up your house without a major renovation. The best way to see what needs to be done, is to look at your house with a fresh point of view. Walk into your house and try to pretend you don't live there, what do you see. I have plenty of tricks for all budget sizes that we really add value to your home!
EXTERIOR
Is the grass green? Do you have weeds? Spend a total of $25 to get grass seed, weed killer (for your grass and anything sticking out of your sidewalks). Now, check the walkway to your house. Buy a bag of white stones for $12 and a few big round stones to make a nice walkway for $20.
You can get numbers for your house in the style of your choice (modern, traditional, country, eclectic, etc.). Nice numbers can be a beautiful addition to the front of your house and will take the attention away from any outdoor eye sores. Get smaller matching numbers for your mailbox. For about $100, you just got a brand new exterior. Now trim your bushes, plant a few flowers and head inside.
LIGHTING
Proper lighting can make a house look completely different. Make sure to have soft lighting in bedrooms and living rooms and bright sunny lights in entry ways and open places. Tilt lights to show off art work or beautiful sections of your house. Lights coming from different sources, inside of just the center of the room, can make a room look bigger so invest in lamps. Replacing the standard light fixtures with ones that fit your style will really add value.
PAINT
Choose light colors to cheer up a dark room. If you have low ceilings, paint them a glossy bright white to make them appear further away. A good trick is to carry down the ceiling color to the top 6 inches of your wall to make the room look even taller. Dark colors will shrink a room that feels too large and light colors will open up a small room. Make sure the paint matches furniture you already have and the rooms have a flow to them. If you like the color you have on the walls now add a fresh coat to make your house look new.
FLOORS
Before you spend the money to replace your floors, think about refurnishing wood floors and steam cleaning your carpet. While you have that steam cleaner, use it on your upholstered furniture. Look at flea markets for new area rugs. You can also make your own rugs but buying a piece of carpet from a carpet store and have the ends finished. Properly staging a house will help it sell fast.
FURNITURE
Instead of buying new couches, chairs, and drapes, go to a fabric store
