Dealing with stomach pain in toddlers can be a pain in itself. Toddlers are often unable to effectively describe the pain they are experiencing. You need to effectively assess the pain in your toddler before administering any remedies. If your child has stomach pain accompanied by a high fever, then you need to get your toddler to your pediatrician or the emergency room immediately. A fever means that your toddler's body is trying to fight off some kind of infection.
Think about what your child has or has not eaten. What did your child eat at his last meal? how much did he eat? Your toddler's stomach pain may be related to overeating. If this is the case, your toddler can ease the pain by resting. When was your child's last meal or snack? If it's been quite sometime, it may be that your child's stomach pain is due to hunger. A few crackers, dry fruit, or non-acidic fruit will help remedy the situation.
For many toddlers, stomach pain may be the result of constipation. When was the last time your toddler had a bowel movement? If it's been a couple of days, you can help speed things along by giving your toddler anything high in fiber such as prunes, raisins, bran muffins, and green peas.
If you're child's pain is related to diarrhea there are a couple of remedies you can use to help. You can give your toddler some dry toast and clear, non-sugar liquids.
Stomach pain can also be related to gas. If you suspect this is the problems, then you can give your toddler some fizzy lemonade. The lemonade will help break up the gas bubbles in your toddler's tummy.
If you're unsure as to what is causing the stomach pain, you can try a couple of remedies.
You can give your toddler icy pops. The cooling effect will help your toddler feel better in no time. You can also try warm, flat ginger=ale or a warm washcloth applied to your toddler's back. Be careful not to apply a hot heating pad or hot washcloth to your child's tummy. A toddler has sensitive skin and it could easily burn. A gentle back rub will often help stubborn tummy aches. Sometimes all a toddler needs is a mother's soft touch and love.
If you have assessed your toddler's stomach pain carefully or you have exhausted all remedies, you need to call your pediatrician. Never try to diagnose a problem if stomach pain continues for more than a day. Helping your child relieve any stomach pain will make everyone feel better.
