I'm not a mean person, but a certain sports teams makes me irritable. The New England Patriots and the New York Yankees are two of these teams. When you turn on ESPN, chances are there will be a story in the first five minutes about either of these teams. To say that the sports media has an east coast bias, is an understatement. I'm from the Midwest and very proud of the teams I love. The Chicago Cubs and Indianapolis Colts have been my favorite teams as long as I can remember. I guess it is the Chicago Cubs fan in me that makes me want to gag when I hear about a team that wins championships every other year.
My wish for 2008 would be that the New England Patriots lose a few times this year. After the 2007 season, that may seem impossible, but it is my wish. I want to watch sports without a "Pursuit of Perfection" update every half-hour. I mean, if it is Tuesday, do you need to be reminded that the Patriots are still undefeated. As far as I know, the NFL doesn't really have any games on Tuesdays. The stories that I like to hear about the Patriots would be "Spygate" stories. Anything about a team that you hate, somehow cheating brings a smile to my face. Is if just me but if the Oakland Raiders were found cheating, wouldn't the NFL throw the rulebook at them? I think they are getting preferential treatment from the league, since their owner doesn't wear tracksuits to their home games, baby.
I don't like the New York Yankees and I'm starting to dislike the once-loveable Red Sox. This season will be the 100th season without a championship for the Chicago Cubs. The Red Sox used to be in my club, but a few years ago they had a good year and won the World Series and ended our friendship as the "loveable losers." The Yankees throw millions of dollars at the best free agents, in hopes of buying a World Series. Once the Mitchell Report came out, it seems like half of the Yankees were drinking HGH Slurpies in the dugout between innings. Andy Pettite and Roger Clemens seem to be thrown under the bus, but I like to point out that they are former Yankees. I know the Cubs aren't exactly the Kansas City Royals with their payroll. They have dished out nearly 200 million the last two off-seasons to have a chance to win a championship. It is just a desperate move from an ownership that is trying to sell the team. I can't complain much about it. This makes the games enjoyable to watch. I can't describe the feeling of watching a game and your team isn't out of games by
