Cheap wedding ideas: How to be your own wedding florist

Lucky you! You're going to marry the man you love and you want to have the wedding of your dreams. When you begin planning the most important day of your life, you get the shock of your life. The dress, the flowers, the invitations, the venue, the food, and so many more details cost a bundle. What's a girl to do?

A great way to cut corners and save a chunk of change is to be your own wedding florist. You can design and arrange the floral decor for your wedding on the cheap and without taking on additional stress. There are many ideas and options available to you that are inexpensive.

Of course, your wedding colors and personal preferences will dictate your floral selection. Your resources will depend on the season, as well as your locale. What you ultimately choose should be a design that is not overly complicated and that you can pre-assemble prior to your big day and still be fresh. The following are some ideas for cheap floral designs. Perhaps these suggestions will trigger some of your creative ideas for that special day.

Lavender in bloom is a beautiful, natural plant and can be recycled. Wouldn't it be great to give the plants or smaller versions to your guests? Plant them in your home for a sweet memory of your wedding. The lavender can be in plastic pots and the bases can easily be covered with a fabric that is in your color scheme. You only have to cut out a square piece of fabric, place the container in the middle, pull up the fabric corners around the lavender and tie it off with a ribbon of lace, raffia, or metallic cords. Dried lavender can be purchased in bulk. A great touch is to use the same ribbon or whatever you have used to tied the containers, and tie bundles of the lavender on the backs of chairs and pews. On the pulpit, you can use large glass globes or urns to create spectacular arrangements. Lavender is a soothing fragrance and is also referred to as nature's Prozac.

Ivy, can be found in abundance, and it's free. You can make forms shaped out of Styrofoam, either balls, triangles, or cone shapes, and create topiaries for the tables and large scaled topiaries for the pulpit. You may want to add white mini string lights to the topiaries for effect and for warm lighting.
