Giving your bathroom a mini-makeover doesn't have to break the bank or be difficult. Sometimes just minor touch-ups can make such a huge impact on a room. By doing the following projects yourself, as well as being flexible, you can save major money.
* Clean- Go through the whole bathroom and toss out everyting unused, expired, old, items you no longer need. Cutting out the clutter is a must for a fresh start and best of all it doesn't even cost a dime.
* Lighting - Changing your hardware can be as easy as picking up a new globe for an existing fixture at a yard sale or local thrift store. No joke! If you aren't into that kind of cheap, brand new globes can be found for less than $20.
* Walls - A fresh coat of paint can be very cheap and make it feel like a new room. If you are not to particular about color and are serious about saving money try your local hardware/paint store and ask about mismatched paint. These can cost somewhere around $5 per can on average. Not a bad price, especially if this is the only room you will use it on.
* Bathroom Linens and Accessories - Pick one color you like and use that consistently through your bathroom. You can get bathmats and toilet covers as a set in one color and at a better price. Check out clearance aisles at Walmart or Target for soap dispensers to cheap bath curtains.
* Hardware - Im talking about shower-heads and towel rods. To replace a shower-head is a very quick, cheap and simple project. Everything we like! If you think you are getting tired of the towel rods you have, try replacing them with hooks. With your hooks lined up it will take up the same amount of space yet create room for more towels.
* Storage - There are so many things you can do for storage depending upon your taste. Something as simple as a set of plastic drawers do wonders and can be found anywhere from Dollar General to Home Depot. If the plastic isn't what you want, try adding a shelf or two to your wall and buy some organizing baskets to put everything from hand towels to toilet paper in them. The best part is that baskets are so easy to find at thrift shops and you won't have to pay half as much as you would at a regular store.
