One can never place a dollar value on the safety of their children but some do try. Babysitting fees have to rise with inflation. A dollar doesn't buy today what it bought when I was a youngster. So babysitters just want to earn a fair buck for the responsibility of your children, and it is a huge responsibility.

While some children are simply wonderful and truly sweet but then there are other children who might not be so wonderful. Then of course you have babies, they are another story all together. But whether kids are wonderful or little monsters they each require the same amount of responsible care.

In some cases, you might have a child with special needs of some nature, or maybe you want the sitter to play or read to the kids. You have to make certain a sitter willing and able to do all that is required.

The one thing you are looking for when you hire a babysitter is
responsibility. As a parent, you want the ability to leave your child and feel comfortable that your kids are getting the best care they can get, next to the parents of course.

Sure you might be able to find someone who will charge you less to look after your kids but will you feel as comfortable paying someone a dollar an hour as opposed to the going rate in your area? Certainly there is a beer swilling, toothless, overweight, greasy haired, burping in your face, butt scratching, nose picking, oily faced woman a few blocks away who is looking for a bit of beer money and will look after your kids on the cheap. Can you truly say that is who you want looking after your children?

Like everything in life, people tend to want to pay less if they can for a babysitter. The safety of your children is not like buying a can of soup where a cheaper can will fill you up just as well as a more expensive can. You can't pick up a sitter at a big box store although that might happen with their ever expanding product lines.

Unless this is a daycare situation then there are no subsidies from the government for babysitters, nor should there be. If you can afford to go out for an evening then you can afford to properly pay someone for the responsibility of looking after your children. It's all about responsibility.
