How to be happy in everyday life? Simple yet profound question. The answer is very simple, just be.
A simple question and a simple answer. Why is it that we tend to make our lives more complicated than it is? All of us in our right minds want to be happy and yet many of us find that an elusive dream.
We can all be happy wherever we are, in whatever situations we are in. Oh yeah, one would say that is if one is told that one has a terminal illness, how can one be happy. Being happy as proclaimed by many is a state of mind. This state of mind is beyond our reach when we are dealt with the unpleasant events of life and there are many.
What we have failed to see is that being happy lies in us making that choice. We can continue to be thinking sad thoughts instead of happy thoughts. Take one moment to think about it, if one is called back to its creator, what happens then? The sun still shines and the earth is still spinning round and people all over the world continues to live their own lives. Having said that, why do we want to choose sorrow instead of laughter. Why do we choose negative thoughts instead of positive thoughts which enable us to be happy. We choose to be happy as well as we choose to be sad. Choose to be Happy every moment of our lives.
Choose Joy, choose to be thankful every moment of our lives and when we are able to do that, we are definitely of the Happy Human species. When we are joyful in the moment, we are happy.
We are able to make these choices to be thankful for the sun that shines, for the rain that keeps our environment fresh. We are thankful for friends that love us and we are thankful that when we are in a difficult moment, choose to look at the bright side of things.
A simple act of choice to be happy. When we find ourselves filled with doubts and worries, stop this instant and tell ourselves, "Hey, let us choose to be happy" and if we simply find that difficult, talk a stroll and find ten things we can be grateful for. If that is difficult to do, then look at the list I have prepared and then make up some of your own.
Ten things I am grateful for:
1. I am alive!
2. I have a home and a comfortable bed to sleep in.
3. I have loved ones to support me.
4. I have food to eat when I am hungry and water to drink when I am thirsty.
5. I can hug my spouse, children and loved ones
6. I have clothes to wear.
7. I have a good book to read
8. I have money to save and to spend
9. I can work for a living ( I can study for good results for a young person)
10. I have friends.
You are not unhappy. You only think you are. So choose to think you are happy and find reasons to be grateful for the happiness each moment of our lives entail.
If one still cannot be happy or choose to be happy, look around you and think of a way you can be of help to someone else without expecting anything in return. After doing this exercise or more, I can guarantee the end result will be you will end up feeling a better you.
When one chooses to help others, somehow one will end up feeling grateful for who they are.
If all the above does not work, I would suggest one sleeps over it and after getting a good rest, decide to be happy and whatever that does not fit into the equation of being happy, throw it out and choose to be happy. We have only one life, treasure it and enjoy the moments we have before our day is done. Throw all reasons why one should be sad out of the window. Be Happy.
God Bless!
