Strange Wilderness premiered on February 1, 2008. It stars Steve Zahn as a host of a television show which he inherited from his father. The show is called Strange Wilderness and is an animal documentary show resembling The Crocodile Hunter Diaries. His production team includes many actors from Grandma's Boy, another Happy Madison Production. Zahn's character, Peter, and the crew set out on an adventure in South America to find and film Bigfoot to save his dying show. Of course, this is a comedy, so many unfortunate and humorous obstacles prevent them from completing their mission.
Humor Level: 3/5
Yes, this movie is a comedy, however, it was not as funny as I thought it would be. I predicted the humor to be like that of Grandma's Boy or other Happy Madison movies: laugh out loud. After watching Strange Wilderness, I concluded that it was about the same humor level as Without A Paddle, also staring Steve Zahn. It wasn't laugh out loud funny. There were a few parts where my fiance and I found ourselves laughing at the absurdity, such as the shark with an overbite scene that just kept going. It had it's moments. My favorite character was Justin Long's character, Junior. He's a stoner that says and does some pretty amazingly stupid things. I give the humor in this movie a 3/5 just because of Junior and what happens to Bigfoot. I won't spoil it for you.
Storyline: 3.5/5
The story of a man trying to keep his father's show alive is a great idea. Peter's father died and handed the torch to his son. Peter tries to live up to his father's image but cannot because of the competition. His competitor's show is on during prime-time while Peter's show is on at 3:00 am. The show deserves to be on at 3:00 am because the animal facts they come up with are incredible. "Sharks are only found in two places on Earth. The northern and southern hemisphere." The only thing I didn't like about the storyline was the fact that he's telling the whole story to someone on the phone. We don't even know who he's telling. The telling of the story is overused especially over the phone. Overall, I'd give the storyline a 3.5/5. It wasn't terrible.
Overall: 3/5
I would say if you have the time and money, go ahead and go see it. If you don't have the money, rent it. If you don't have the time, don't bother. It's not a must see movie. For a movie fanatic, it's something that might interest you. Definitely, don't wait in line for more than 10 minutes to see it, and don't pay more than six or seven dollars to see it.
