Understanding human lives through computer metaphor

Any computer programmer understands the term "Garbage in-Garbage out." The mind can be likened to a computer. Your mind receives data from the senses and processes this information and uses it to form thoughts and ideas and beliefs. What you allow in and what is put there by others, determines the type of person you become in life.

This is obviously a simplistic way to look at the human mind or as I call it, the soul. But it is a useful template for understanding human behavior and values.

We are not blank slates when we are born. There is a basic program in place. The debate over whether it is nurture or nature that determines personality and behavior is still on. I personally believe that both effect the seat of personality, the human soul.

I will express my opinions here for your consideration. When I speak of the soul, I am using that term interchangeably with the term, the mind.

If we think of ourself as a brand new computer at birth, with endless possibilities and powers, the garbage in garbage out analogy works. If you understand how computer language works, you know that one tiny mistake in typing will keep the program or search engine from working properly. This is how I view the information given to infants and children as they grow and learn about the world. One wrong signal or one omission in the program or search address, and the soul or mind will not function as it should or you are misdirected to the wrong results.

Psychologists have determined that the most basic human need is love and acceptance. If a child does not have this need met, or has received mixed signals (typos) in this area, their "program" will not operate properly. Fortunately, the human mind is plastic, malleable and able to change itself...in effect, reprogram. I personally believe that is what is going on in every person alive. You are constantly reprogramming as you experience life.

Does it matter what you take in with your senses? For instance, does viewing violence predispose you to violent behavior. Again, I will only state my opinion. Like most computers now a days, if you have a good security program running, what you view most likely will not change what type of person (or program) you are. In the event a virus or trojan enters, it can be quickly contained or removed. Let's not forget though that there is malware out there that can sneak in undetected and destroy your hard drive (mind) before you can detect it. Where you browse then becomes important. So, what is a good security
