My husband and I have been happily married for several decades. We do actually say, "I love you", but sometimes showing is better than telling.
1. My husband loves meatloaf, and I've made heart-shaped meatloaf (as well as cakes and cookies). In fact I've made entire heart-shaped meals on Valentine's day. My husband thought it was fun and so did the kids. Heart shaped rolls, Jell-o salad. The pink heart-shaped mashed potatoes didn't go over so well though. Or a heart shaped pizza is easy to make. Let frozen dough thaw, put a heart dent' in the top of the circle and spell I love you with pepperoni, or any topping you choose.
2. We have a small spiral bound notebook on the kitchen counter. I go to bed later than my husband and he gets up earlier than I do, so we leave little love notes for each other, draw silly pictures, make jokes and so forth on the notebook (as well as, "It's trash day" and "We're out of milk." It's nice to have the little notebooks to read through, sort of a journal of our relationships.
3. This is a version of the yellow snow' - just nicer. If you live in a snowy area like I do, buy some red soda pop and write "I love you" in the snow, complete with a heart.
Or make a snowman (snowperson?) and put an I Love You" sign on him (or her).
4.Notes in the lunch box, on the car seat, under the pillow, the bathroom window, in the underwear drawer are also fun. Be creative.
5. I sometimes buy Dove chocolates that come individually wrapped and put them in my husband's coat pocket, lunch bag, and of course - on his pillow.
6. If your partner listens to the same radio station on their way to and from work, have 'your song' played and dedicated to him/her.
7. Leave an "I Love You" message on his/her voice mail, answering machine or text message. Be careful though, as you don't want your husband to have his phone on 'speaker' and have your message pop up in an important conference or with your boss in the room. It could be embarrassing - or worse.
8. It's clich' but having flowers or candy delivered it still a huge hit. My husband sent flowers to me at work. The receptionist enjoyed them, my officemates loved it - everyone I worked with had a nice experience and I was thrilled. Men also like to get flowers and especially candy.
9. If you have the funds, you can buy a digital photo frame and load it with photos of you.
10. Make a play list of love songs and download it onto his MP3 player or make a CD and put it in his CD player.
11. Make his favorite meal. Mine is
